Brushy Creek Lake Park

The 90-acre Brushy Creek Lake Park is teeming with natural recreational endeavors, making it a top park near Avery Ranch. There are picnic areas with grills near the 38-acre lake to fish of the pier, kayak, canoe, or observe wildlife. Also, youngsters also flock to the water playscape zone, while the family can enjoy hiking and biking trails, a labyrinth, and sand volleyball courts.

Cedar Bark Park

Dogs abound at the Cedar Bark Park where four-legged friends can play the day away and enjoy various amenities. Amid this five-acre dog park, visitors will find a natural features including a swimming pond. Also, there are also benches for sitting and dog showers to clean up pups after their adventures. There are plenty of facilities for pets and humans including ‘restrooms’ and drinking fountains onsite. The park closes on Tuesdays from 7 a.m—4 p.m. for maintenance and cleaning.

Balcones District Park

A wonderful place for an outing, Balcones District Park in Austin is filled with delights for everyone. Shaded picnic tables are adjacent to an outdoor fountain, a nicely sized playground and an area designed just for the wee ones. Sports lovers can play hoops or beach volleyball or take a swim in the park’s outdoor swimming pool. Just off the main area is a Walnut Creek hiking and biking trail that leads to alternative trail systems.

Champion Park

This is likely one of the most fun and creative parks in the region, and folks travel from miles around to enjoy the vast amenities at Champion Park. When visiting on weekends during warm weather months, there are features such as a giant spurting blue whale to cool off visitors. There is a covered play area with incredible dinosaur bone castings and ‘soft’ boulders designed for climbing and exploring. Pack a picnic or use the BBQ grills onsite, or take a pole and fish for dinner. There’s an easy access bridge to the park from Avery Ranch, making this lovely place a favorite of residents.

Nelson Ranch Park

Nelson Ranch Park is beloved by residents due to its wide green spaces and vast athletic fields for sports such as tennis and soccer, and it boasts a charming children’s playground. Although not as shady as other parks, Nelson Ranch is excellent for fun in the sun and to spend time with friends and family. For visitor’s convenience, there is a covered picnic area, bathrooms and water fountains available onsite.
